A Seamless Treatment
“My father had prostate cancer and so did my cousin, so I was kind of expecting it.” At age 73 retired postal worker Harold Peterson was not surprised when prostate biopsies showed cancer but he did face a big decision- treatment. “I looked at surgery but after talking to my cousin, a radiologist, and a number of friends who had experienced prostate cancer I settled on the seed implants. It was the least invasive.” Peterson, now 77, underwent brachytherapy in October 2000. Two weeks later, and feeling well, he and his wife left for their winter home in Arizona. “We took our potted plants with us so we would have a garden as soon as we arrived.” Did prostate cancer change his life? “Not at all. It hasn’t kept me away from my boats or my gardens. The see implants were definitely the choice for me.”
