A Home Grown Minnesotan

Born and raised in Minnesota, Douglas Olson chose to remain in his community treating fellow Minnesotans. He received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Minnesota followed by residency training in internal medicine at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital. At that point, Olson pursued radiation oncology as his specialty, completing the required residency at the University of Minnesota. Olson feels his choice of radiation oncology landed him “in the right place at the right time”.

Dr. Olson is board certified in both internal medicine and radiation oncology. Though practicing in most areas of radiation oncology, he has specialized in treatment of prostate cancer. Since introducing brachytherapy to the Midwest in 1988, Olson has performed nearly 2,000 seed implants. He is a recognized national authority in prostate cancer management.

Additionally, Olson is a research investigator for the Community Cancer Oncology Program (CCOP), and has served on the Board of the American College of Radiation Oncology.

Although Olson practices at the Fairview Southdale Radiation Therapy Center, he has been instrumental in developing area radiation therapy facilities at North Memorial Medical Center (Robbinsdale), Unity Hospital (Fridley), Ridgeview Medical Center (Waconia), St. Francis Regional Medical Center (Shakopee) and the Brainerd Radiation Therapy Center in Brainerd, Minnesota.

Dr. Olson has two daughters and a son, enjoys golf, and previously piloted his own airplane.
